ARTS/West will be recieving $15,000 in upgrades!

Following the success of Mark Kelso's performance last night, we've been given some great news. The recent goal that we've been pushing for has finally come to fruition as we're being granted $15,000 in upgrades!

These upgrades consist of: Replacing the pews with 170 new performance grade seats, removing the old carpet to show the nice hard wood beneath that will also be sanded and resurfaced, and finally we will install a removable drape and pipe for the stage.

We're immensely excited for these changes, and I'm not being modest in saying that none of it would be possible without the wonderful supporters that we have. Thank you all so much, and I can't wait to show you the space after the changes have taken place!

Next, An Athens pilot project of Global Dialogues will be announcing the local winners of their annual worldwide narrative contest during a presentation at ARTS/West at 3pm on Sunday, May 19.  The event will be preceded at 1pm by a panel discussion focusing on the ideas generated by youths in their contest submissions.  The awards presentation will feature a brief introductory film and performances by the Athens Irish Dancers.  Ohio University graduate music student, Isaac Zika, will perform on piano.

A diverse group of Athens County youths submitted entries in this year’s Global Dialogues contest.  Entries came from students at Hocking College, Ohio University, an Athens-based women’s recovery organization, and from youth in the general public.  This year's contest topics included violence and HIV/AIDS & sexuality. A jury has chosen twenty entries as local winners.  These twenty will now go on to a jury at the international level.  Winners of the international contest have the opportunity to be made into films by some of the world's top cinema talent.  Global Dialogues films are available for viewing or download in 27 languages at the Global Dialogues YouTube channel:  http://www.youtube.com/globaldialogues
